About Furry Friends Fund
Furry Friends Fund (FFF) was founded in memory of Ellen English’s beloved cat, Petey, who passed in 2024. As a full-time resident of Wintergreen Resort, Ellen, along with dear friends, established FFF to honor Petey, with the mission to "help the animals in need that cross our paths." This grassroots initiative aims to reduce the population of homeless cats in the community while also supporting a senior rescue horse named Kenny and his goat companion, Lovebug, ensuring they enjoy their remaining years in comfort and health.
Our Founder: Ellen English
Ellen’s beloved Petey inspired us to do what we do.
Born in the housekeeping department at Wintergreen Resort, Petey adopted Ellen and spent 18 years with her before crossing the Rainbow Bridge in 2024.
Our inspiration: Petey
Ellen, a Virginia native raised on a working farm, graduated from James Madison University and is Wintergreen Resort’s longest-tenured year-round resident after moving here in 1981.
Since 2009, she has been actively involved in animal welfare, volunteering for several non-profits, as well as leading initiatives to care for and spay/neuter homeless cats at Wintergreen.
